It seems lots of people find this site searching for how to remove the closed comment text at the bottom of Pages in Thesis. (If that’s why you’re here, welcome!)
I can’t blame people for wanting to get rid of it, it can be annoying if you want to simply creating a website that contains some pages without having comments on them, but want to retain commenting on some pages. I don’t exactly need comments on my About or Contact page do I, but I might in other locations.
I had previously written about how to remove the default Comments Are Closed text manually (touching template code, horror!) I recently got a comment on the post asking how to do it in version 1.7 and beyond. I guess I had written the original post so long ago I forgot to update it. So if you’re still searching for this, I have some good news.
In Version 1.7 and beyond Chris has added additional options in your Thesis Admin control panel to remove the text a couple of different ways.
Unfortunately, he keeps moving these controls around in each version, so here is a quick guide to locate it.
To Remove Comments Are Closed in Thesis 1.6
In the simple case where you want to simply disable comments on all Pages, this should work for most people. You can check the option to do so which is located under Thesis Options -> Display Options -> Comments Pages.
If you want to retain the ability to have comments on pages, but want to remove the notification I now think just setting the display property to none in custom.css is the simplest way without having to modify PHP code files. I think Google is smart enough to realize this is presentational and not cloaking.
To Remove Comments Are Closed in Thesis 1.7
Yay, we can now remove the close comments message in the options!
Look for it under Thesis Site Options -> Display Options -> Comments. Uncheck the box.
To Remove Comments Are Closed in Thesis 1.8
It’s still there but in a different location.
It’s located under Thesis Design Option -> Display Options -> Comments section (First Column). Uncheck the box.
This is still in Beta so it might move around again. I’ll try to pay attention this time. ![]()

Hi, I would like to just have my blog page have comments, but Thesis (1.8.1) doesn’t seem to allow that–it’s all the pages or none. Is there some way to just have one page with comments? It’s not Screen Options.
Thanks.
I’d check out this post on the WordPress support forum. http://wordpress.org/support/topic/turn-off-comments-on-pages-by-default
Thanks, I found there IS a setting in screen options that lets you turn the comments on and off on a per-page basis. It’s under Discussion, rather than under Comments.
The “turn off comments by default” feature turns them off on all pages.
Thanks for the tip. That should be useful!
